Why is this page called 'Take a Risk'?
Taking risks is what the book is about, so naturally, the book website should also reference this basic idea. But how do you create a space for people to take a risk on a website?
The answer is: I'm not sure. The best thing we came up with so far is this nascent blog which we hope may end up being a sort of landing ground for three types of posts from people like you:
* Questions you are afraid to ask elsewhere. Trying to make a difference in our neighborhoods and schools, if we are doing it right, is hard work. We run into crises of confidence and competence on a regular basis. Let this be a space where we ask tough questions and allow ourselves to be vulnerable.
* Stories of risks taken and lessons learned. What did you try? Did it work? Why or why not. All the better if we can use this space to not only learn from our own mistakes, but each other's, as well.
* Controversial opinions (with names attached). The internet has re-ignited two particular trends in commentary: anonymous screeds (the vile name-calling that litters both left and right-wing blogs) and tight-lipped half-truths (the overly careful, afraid-of-what-everyone-will-say 'political' speech from our elected officials.) Maybe this can be a space for honest debate and disagreement.
Or maybe we'll come up with something better... at the very least, I'll be checking in regularly to answer any questions you may have.
Thanks for your continued support,
Stephen
